Reasons to believe the Bible is true.

The Classical Reason

1. The bible has been proven by history, archeology, and textual criticism, to be a reliable and trustworthy historical document. It has been preserved and passed down by God’s people throughout the ages.

As a matter of fact, if we were to throw out the New Testament on the grounds of textual scrutiny we would by the same logic be forced to throw out all of our ancient history as well and we would be blind to the past entirely. The New Testament doesn’t just win the textual criticism argument it clears the field.

2. So, given that we believe in God and given the basis that the New Testament has withstood textual scruitiny to be shown as a reliable document, we have sufficient reason to believe with confidence that Jesus Christ is the Son of God based on the testimony of the text.

3. Since Jesus Christ is the Son of God he is an infallible authority.

4. Jesus Christ teaches that the Bible is the written Word of God.

Matthew 24:35 ESV
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Matthew 4:4 ESV
4 But he answered, “It is written,
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 22:29 ESV
29 But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.

John 10:35 ESV
35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—

5. Since the Word comes from God it is utterly trustworthy because God is utterly trustworthy.

Conclusion: On the Infallible Authority of Jesus Christ we believe the Bible is the written Word of God.

Presuppositional Reason

1 The Bible is the infallible word of God. This is known based on the internal testimony of the Holy Spirit only available to the regenerate indwelt believer.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16 ESV
12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. 14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

John 10:27 ESV
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

2. The bible attests to it’s own infallibility.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

3. The self attestation of scripture is an infallible attestation.

Conclusion: The Bible is the written Word of God
